Outpatient Substance Abuse Treatment for Women

At Honeycomb Wellness Center, we walk alongside women 18+ as they heal from substance abuse and co-occurring conditions like anxiety, depression, or bipolar disorder. Healing starts with a treatment plan personalized around each woman’s specific needs. Our SUDCC-certified counselors and experienced therapists deliver care in small-group settings, providing genuine, individualized attention to every client.

Care covers three levels of treatment, so that women can move through recovery at the right pace. Our substance abuse treatment in Marin County includes a partial hospitalization program (PHP), intensive outpatient program (IOP), and outpatient program (OP). Each client’s stay typically lasts three to six months depending on their progress.

Most women arrive after completing detox or residential treatment elsewhere, continuing their recovery in a setting intended to fit daily life outside a facility. All of our programs strive to help women rediscover the confidence and stability that lasting recovery offers.

Why Choose Honeycomb Wellness Center?

As a trusted provider of substance abuse treatment in Marin County, we know no two recovery journeys look the same. Our approach adapts to fit each woman rather than the other way around. From clinical care to holistic practices, every part of our gender-specific treatment works together to help women build genuine self-awareness and a life beyond addiction, not just abstinence.

A Holistic Approach to
Recovery

We believe healing involves the whole person, not just the symptoms of substance use disorder. Our treatment model addresses the biological, psychological, social, and spiritual aspects of recovery. Evidence-based care, mindfulness practices, experiential therapies, and wellness-focused programming all work together to support this approach.

Comprehensive Continuity of Care

From PHP and IOP to outpatient therapy, each level of care is designed to build on the last. Progress made in one stage carries directly into the next. As women approach the end of treatment, planning shifts toward securing outside resources, relapse prevention, and transitional support. We help coordinate continued care and outside resources to support long-term recovery.

Empowering Women Beyond Treatment

Women leave with a deeper sense of self-worth and the practical life skills needed to manage daily responsibilities, return to school, or re-enter the workforce with confidence. Our goal extends past sobriety alone, helping each woman reintegrate into her family, career, education, and community as someone she recognizes and respects.

Women-Centered Care in a Supportive Community

Substance use disorders are shaped by trauma, relationships, or societal pressures, rarely addressed in mixed-gender settings. Treating women separately creates space for these experiences to surface without the added dynamic of gender-based judgment or distraction. Our programs create space to heal alongside women who share similar experiences, with group and individual therapy grounded in safety, trust, and mutual support.

Trauma-Informed, Personalized Treatment

Recognizing that many women enter recovery carrying unresolved trauma, every treatment is planned around her unique history, needs, and goals. Our clinical team combines trauma-informed modalities like eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) with cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), motivational interviewing, and individual counseling. The center offers a haven to heal without judgment or re-traumatization.

Family and Community Support for Lasting Recovery

Loved ones are welcomed into the recovery process through family education and, when appropriate, family therapy sessions that build understanding and repair strained relationships. Women build lasting connections through peer support, 12-Step communities like Alcoholics Anonymous, and an active alumni network that keeps them engaged well after they complete treatment.

Benefits of Our Women’s Outpatient Treatment in Marin County

Our day-to-day programming includes several core elements designed to work together, not just the standard levels of care. Each piece plays a specific role in helping women build skills that carry into life after discharge.

Experiential Therapies

Yoga, acupuncture, eco-therapy, and art therapy offer clients hands-on ways to process recovery outside of talk therapy alone, supporting relapse prevention through practical, daily coping tools. These practices help regulate emotions and manage withdrawal symptoms as clients move through each level of care.

Support for Co-Occurring Disorders

Anxiety, depression, trauma, and bipolar disorder often accompany substance use, and dual diagnosis treatment addresses both rather than treating one condition at a time. Psychotherapy plays a central role in this approach, helping women work through both for more durable results than focusing on substance use alone.

Group Therapy

Peer sessions give women a place to share experiences, hold each other accountable, and practice new skills in real time. Clinicians guide these sessions using CBT and DBT frameworks to keep the work structured and goal-driven.

What to Expect From Outpatient Treatment

A typical day in our substance abuse treatment in Marin County starts at 9 a.m. Groups open with intention-setting, move into a CBT/DBT process group, then shift to somatic work like yoga or SMART Recovery, followed by a shared lunch. The final group rotates between meditation, book study, or acupuncture, with cooking group on Thursdays and a fitness focus on Fridays. Our predictable rhythm, paired with strong peer relationships, gives clients the stability lasting recovery depends on.

Our Levels of Care

Recovery moves at its own pace. Our center covers three levels of care that meet women exactly where they are and adjust as they grow stronger.

Support steps down gradually, letting each woman build stability before moving toward independence.

PHP

The most intensive level we offer, PHP sessions run five days a week for six hours a day. At this level of treatment, we support women who need significant clinical care while still returning home each evening.

IOP

Meeting three days a week for three hours, we offer IOP for women who no longer require the rigorous support of PHP-level care. Our team helps them keep building recovery skills while managing more of their daily responsibilities.

OP

Designed for women who have completed PHP or IOP, this level supports the transition back into daily life. Sessions meet once a week for three hours, providing ongoing support during the final stage of structured treatment.

What Our Substance Use Services Treat

Addiction doesn’t look the same for every woman, and we don’t treat it like it does. Whatever substance or condition you’re facing, care reflects your specific situation, including any mental health needs that come with it.

Opioid Use Disorder

Prescribed pain management, untreated trauma, or exposure to heroin often leads to opioid use disorder, making withdrawal both physically demanding and emotionally complex. Our treatment team collaborates with outside prescribers and provides medication management support, individual counseling, and relapse prevention strategies tailored to the unique risks of opioid recovery.

Alcohol Addiction

Underlying anxiety, grief, or chronic stress frequently drive alcohol use disorder, and our treatment goes beyond abstinence to address what’s triggering the drinking. Group and individual therapy help women identify personal triggers and build sustainable coping skills.

Dual Diagnosis

When trauma, anxiety, or depression go untreated alongside substance use, relapse risk increases significantly, since one condition often fuels the other. Dual diagnosis treatment addresses both simultaneously through therapies like CBT, DBT, and EMDR, giving women clear tools to break the cycle between the two.

Signs of Substance Use Disorder

Recognizing substance abuse — whether involving opioids, alcohol, or prescription medications — is the first step toward building sustainable recovery. You or your loved one may need structured support if you find yourself using more than intended, withdrawing from family and daily responsibilities, or continuing despite negative impacts on your health, relationships, or finances.

When persistent cravings, building tolerance, or repeated attempts to quit on your own make it feel impossible to stop, it is a clear signal that professional care is needed. No matter how overwhelming it feels right now, recovery remains completely possible at any stage; women who once felt trapped by addiction have gone on to build stable, meaningful lives. The same road to recovery is open to you at Honeycomb Wellness Center.

FAQs

How does a partial hospitalization program (PHP) differ from an intensive outpatient program (IOP)?

PHP offers more intensive care than standard outpatient treatment, with sessions five days a week for six hours a day, allowing clients to receive focused therapy while still returning home each evening. IOP is more structured than typical outpatient care but less intensive than PHP, meeting three days a week for three hours, so clients can continue daily activities while receiving treatment.

OP is the final level of care, designed for women who have completed PHP or IOP and are ready to return to daily life. Sessions meet once a week for three hours, offering continued support during this stage of recovery. OP helps women stay connected to treatment while managing work, school, or family responsibilities.

We don’t provide on-site detox or detoxification services at our Marin treatment center since we provide outpatient rather than residential treatment. Many women enter this program after completing detox or residential treatment through another provider. If you need detox or withdrawal management, our team can help coordinate a referral before treatment begins.

We don’t prescribe or initiate medication-assisted treatment (MAT) on-site (i.e., Suboxone). Our team only supports medication adherence, monitors psychiatric medications, coordinates with outside prescribing providers, and helps clients maintain medication stability as part of their individualized treatment plan.
